Laura is an Accredited Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers. She graduated with first class honors in her Social Work degree from Central Queensland University. Laura has been working and supporting adults and adolescents within the NDIS since its roll out in Queensland and has a thorough understanding of the NDIS system. Laura has further experience working within hospital settings and within the field of child safety. She has worked with a wide range of highly vulnerable individuals and families. Laura has the proven ability working with those with complex needs.
Laura has an interest in providing practical skills, therapy and counselling to individuals with brain injuries, intellectual disabilities and neurodiverse conditions.
Laura values social justice and respect for people and works from a person-centered and strengths focused view to empower people to achieve their individual goals. She believes in the autonomy and self-determination of all individuals and strives to minimise the effects of the oppression and power imbalances.
Laura recognises the importance of a community and believes in being connected emotionally and physically to a supportive community. She works collaboratively with stakeholders, community organisations and other allied health professionals to provide each person with a supportive team and community.
Laura prides herself on a friendly, open and honest approach creating a strong therapeutic alliance with the client. Laura provides a focus on mental health using focused psychological strategies tailored to the client’s needs and choices while working with the individual to develop skills to address everyday challenges. She draws from evidence-based practice approaches, such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, motivational interviewing and Solution Focused Therapy to assist them to achieve and sustain their desired goals.
